DESCRIPTION: A thrilling period of amateur radio activity in February where radio amateurs contact stations using vintage ham radio equipment from the early era of the NOVICE LICENSE. Any licensed radio amateur may participate using any equipment and the object is to contact novice style stations built prior to 1980. |
RELIVE THE GLORIOUS NOVICE ERA! You may use ANY radio equipment you like, but the scoring will be higher for using real novice-era radios! Of course this will include manual straight keys, bugs, side swipers and other manual keying devices. Simple equipment, but stupendous fun! |
EXCHANGE: RST, NAME, QTH, NRR number (IF you are using less than or equal to 75 watts plate input.) |
BANDS: 80m, 40m, 15, 10, 2m bands only. |
SUGGESTED FREQUENCIES: Around: 3550 - 3650 kHz 3579, 7055, 7060, 7080, 7100 - 7125 kHz 21.114, 21.120, 21.150 MHz 28.114, 28.120 MHz 144.085 and 144.450MHz CW and AM where allowed. Literally anywhere that you have a crystal for, of course!
Operate CW anywhere that it is legal for your license class in these 5 bands. |
ADDITIONAL RULES:
All radio amateurs worldwide are eligible to participate. Any licensed amateur radio station may participate. You do NOT need to be using "NOVICE STYLE'
radios to participate, but of course this is encouraged. This will be an annual event held for 9 days in the month of February.

Certificates were mailed out in March 2015 and March 2016 to all participants. Winners were announced. All scores are now posted on this web site. Participation in the NRR 2015 & 2016 was much higher than we expected and we had a LOT of logs to process. The NRR 2017 will use AUTOMATED LOG SUBMISSION through a web site! Much much easier to submit and to tally your score! |

Why donate?
Our goal is to help hams to enjoy old time amateur radio and at the same time having a site that meets
the needs of its visitors. Whether you're a newcomer to amateur radio or an "old hand" we hope you will
find something about the Novice Rig Roundup to make your radio activities more enjoyable experiences. If you want to support
our goal to help make this an annual event where all are welcome and able to use their older novice era equipment, please make
a contribution. Any amount is appreciated.
